Amazon has introduced a new discounted storefront called 'Amazon Haul,' available exclusively on its mobile app. This new venture offers a wide selection of items priced at $20 or less, including categories such as fashion accessories, home goods, clothing, and electronics. The launch is Amazon's strategic move to compete with burgeoning Chinese marketplaces popular with budget-conscious shoppers in the U.S.

Catering to the value retail segment, a significant growth area, Haul distinguishes itself with a majority of items priced under $10, some even less than $1, like an iPhone case for $1.79. However, with these low prices comes a delivery time of one to two weeks and a shipping fee structure that waives costs for orders over $25 but charges $3.99 for smaller purchases. Returns are restricted to items priced at $3 or more.

Amazon has emphasized that it carefully screens products sold on Haul to ensure customers receive safe and compliant items. This could be interpreted as a response to regulatory scrutiny faced by some of its overseas competitors. The creation of Haul is driven by consumer demand for extremely low-priced goods, even if delivery times are extended. While there are concerns about Haul potentially drawing sales away from Amazon's main site, it is viewed as a strategic move to better compete against its competitors, particularly among younger consumers.
